Safety Manager

Summary:

Function & Scope:

To provide professional knowledge and expertise in the administration and support of environmental health and safety programs.


Responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of environmental health and safety programs to assure compliance with regulatory agency guidelines and company policies.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

• Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state and local legislation and codes governing environmental health and safety.
• Develops policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines.
• Interfaces with regulatory agencies, committee members and management staff to
formulate corrective actions.
• Designs training for all levels of employees, accident investigators and supervisors.
• Ensures personnel training and corrective action follow-up is completed.
• Assesses risk potential of hazardous duties/protocols.
• Develops and implements accident investigation, statistical data analysis, and recurrence
prevention programs and procedures.
• Conducts on/off-site reviews and audits of operations and facilities.
• Reviews documents for regulatory and safety compliance.
• Monitors all current information on regulations and requirements related to hazardous
materials and waste.
• Directs industrial hygiene, occupational and general safety programs to ensure a safe
environment and comply with safety standards.
• Investigates and evaluates new safety equipment for appropriateness.
• Responds and provides assistance to all emergency situations.

Marginal Functions:

• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Attends conferences, meeting, and workshops to keep up-to-date
on new safety methods and procedures to applicable codes and regulations
or to maintain required level of certification.

General supervision from the President/CEO of the company

Given:

General supervision of assigned staff when assigned

Education:

Minimum Required: Bachelor's degree
Preferred:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Applied or Basic Science, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.

Experience:

Required:

Four years of directly related experience in environmental health and safety compliance

Preferred:

Experience in research activities

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Eligible to be certified in one of the following:
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) by Board of Certified Safety Professional
• Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) by American Board of Industrial Hygiene



Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):

Use of equipment designed to inspect, test, monitor, and measure safe environmental levels. Use of standard office equipment. Work conditions are typically in extreme climates, construction projects, and field conditions in or adjacent to radiation, biological and/or

hazardous material work areas. May require working after hours, occasional weekend to respond to emergency or non-emergency situations.

Other:

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Human Resources Manager, President or Chief Executive Officer.
