We are a high-end residential and commercial landscape design, build and maintenance company that has served the Greater Pittsburgh Area for the past fourteen years. We are currently looking to expand our growing Plant Healthcare Program.
We are in an immediate need of a chemical applicator to provide services for our established Plant Healthcare customer base. Job involvement will include the application of chemicals and fertilizers to enhance plant growth, development, and vigor of newly planted or established plants. Prospective employees should be driven individuals who can succeed in a group environment or by working independently. Applicants must feel comfortable working outside in a variety of climactic conditions as well as interacting with customers about services provided.
Education, training, experience:
1.) At least 5 years experience in the Landscaping Industry with a preferred background in plant healthcare, diagnosis, and eradication. A working knowledge of plant growth, characteristics, and tree and shrub identification for the North Eastern United States and respective USDA climate zones is required. College or associate degree educated applicants are preferred, but not required.
2.) The applicant must have (or must be willing to attain within 30 days) a valid Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator’s License in categories 6 and 7. Study materials will be provided to individuals in need of obtaining certification.
3.) A valid state-issued driver’s license will be required at a minimum, with preference being given to individuals with a commercial driver’s license. All candidates must be able to obtain a D.O.T. Medical Card. Drivers license must pass a background check for insurance purposes. Individuals must feel comfortable driving larger trucks.
4.) A working knowledge base of chemicals, hazards, and their effects on plants and human health is preferred. Applicant must be able to develop a comprehensive and individualized, customer specific, care plan to maintain plant vigor. Candidate must be able to apply chemicals as directed by the label instructions. Application will include the calibration of equipment and materials to meet these requirements. Candidate must actively monitor trucks and equipment for repairs and maintenance as needed.
5.) Individual must be able to work independently for long hours as weather and seasonal requirements dictate. Position will require year round commitment to work involving new and re-enrollment of customer contracts. Selling new contracts is a key component of growing the business and financial incentives will be given for exceeding sales requirements. Hours may vary seasonally with heavy workloads in times of actively growing plants (spring through fall).
6.) Must be able to independently lift and carry up to 80+ pounds while filling chemical tanks and spray trucks. Position will require climbing on and off of the spray truck to make calibration adjustments to motor or to add chemicals to tank.
7.) Candidate must act in professional demeanor at all times including but not limited to: timeliness and commitment to report on time to work and jobsites, cleanliness and professional appearance, proper use of language and sensitivity to site situations, as well as a general positive attitude. Individual accountability is of paramount importance. A team mentality must be observed even while working independently, with the expectation of helping others as needed. Applicant must be able to communicate effectively with customers and staff verbally or in writing.
